One such use case we would like to discuss today is of a PCBA and engineering services company who approached us for a monitoring solution for their testing unit.
Retrofit IOT solution in engineering services
The client usually does the testing of industrial chips for quality purposes. They have few ovens that test for durability and fragility in the manufactured industrial chips. Presently their engineers have to go to each and every oven to capture the data and record it physically in a sheet of paper. The client wanted to monitor few critical parameters related to the oven and the robotic arm that places the oven trays.
We proposed a retrofit IoT solution that enabled the transmission of parameters such as oven temperature, vibration, sound, power consumption and the operational status to a gateway controller and from there to a centralized dashboard. The data obtained can be used for data analysis enabling the management to optimize the whole testing process.
One of the main challenges we encountered was all the ovens were close to 30 years old, that meant there was no network interface and the ovens were running on a legacy operation system. Their in-house engineers had to capture data visually and write it in a sheet of paper. Often few maintenance issues would creep up leading to a downtime. Another issue there were encountering was some ovens were consuming more power in operation.
We proposed a wireless monitoring solution that would record the oven temperature, track the energy consumption, and monitor the excess vibration and sound coming from the ovens and robotic arms associated with it. All the data would be pushed to a centralized dashboard. Custom reports and other analytical tools were developed for detailed scrutiny of the incoming data.
